Upcoming Events
February, 2010 Trip
We are organizing a trip to the area in February. The trip is guaranteed to be one of a kind: we will be
spending several nights in the villages; each one of us will be partnered with an individual from one of
the communities; and we will find ourselves in the characteristic role of being taught by village participants
in forestry conservation, agro forestry products, and organic gardening. There will also be reflection time,
both among ourselves as well as the project participants.
Open to:
The trip is open to all. It is being organized by parishioners from three churches (St. Mark’s, St. Thomas,
and St. Columba’s).
Dates: Feb 6 – 17, 2010
About 8 days in Trinidad and nearby villages and 3 nights in Copan or some other natural or historic attraction.
Partners Organizations:
Sustainable Harvest International (SHI) and Sustainable Harvest International – Honduras. SHI’s mission is to
provide farming families in Central America with training and tools to overcome poverty while restoring the planet’s
tropic forests. The trip will be run by Smaller World Trips, an activity of SHI.
Purpose:
Participants will take part in the sustainable agriculture and forestry program in some or all of the 5 communities
supported by the Trinidad Conservation Project (a program of SHI). We will reconnect with our good friend and
Honduran agronomist, Roy Lara, and others in Trinidad and the rural communities. Likely projects include: building
chicken coops, planting vegetable gardens, installing small-scale drip irrigation systems, building wood-conserving
stoves, planting trees and others. Trip participants will have direct contact with project members, and will be actively
engaged in working with them side by side. There will be built-in time for debriefs in the evening.
